Health is defined by physical, mental, social, and spiritual well-being. If a person excels in each of the areas, he/she is living a healthier life. 

Practicing spiritual higher power is in many ways different from spiritual activities. Even if one is not religious and can’t offer religious services, they can still engage in spiritual self care activities.

In simple words, spiritual self care practices involve sparing time for yourself from your daily schedule to rejuvenate your soul.

Yoga is a form of exercise prevalent in India. It has its connection to the Puranic textbook of Indian civilizations. Many sages who were Yoga gurus are said to have lived for eternity.

Yoga plays a huge role in harmonizing mind, body, and spirit. Different forms of Yoga have different health benefits, some being known to heal many chronic diseases. Along with its physical benefits, it channels emotions through different Yogasans and nourishes the soul.

Start your day with the Suryanamskar (Sun-greeting) and Pranayam. Pick a calm, green place to practice daily. Set aside a few minutes a day at a fixed time for this. Building a healthy routine is your first step towards spiritual self care.

Walking and Gymming are physical activities you can substitute for Yoga. Gymming can help you achieve body positivity, attain self-confidence, and upgrade to a healthier lifestyle.

Walking is an underrated physical activity, but it has numerous health benefits and is suitable for all age groups. Always pick a place that resonates serenity and is close to nature. As the fresh air reaches your lung and each body cell, it nourishes your senses, refreshes your mind and soul, and aids physical and mental well-being. 

Walking is also a great way to meet new people while spending time in nature, both essential characteristics of spiritual self care.

5. Cleanse Your Space

Cleansing your space extends to materials and people. A general thumb rule for spiritual self care is to surround yourself with those who spread positive vibes. Keep your space free of clutter as a cluttered room reflects a cluttered mind. Freeing your space of the clutter will help you clear up your mind. 

Many incensed and perfumed materials like incense, sage, and palo santo cedar can help channel positive energy. Make sure your environment is at optimum vibrational levels, wherein your soul can find peace.

6. Read

This impacts our mental health more than we can imagine.

Our constant attention towards the notification bell distracts us from reality. The simple solution to disengage from social media is disabling your notification bells or setting time limits for distracting applications. If this doesn’t help, you can fetch help from digital detoxes and other free resources to set aside time and unplug from technology, giving you time to heal and practice spiritual self care. 

 

8. Don’t Bottle Up, Try Talking

Sometimes we are hung up on matters for so long instead of forgetting and forgiving the person associated. Life is too short to dwell in the past, so enjoy what’s coming rather than digging up the perils of yesterday.

Try forgiving the person because that is the only way you can truly let it go. Forgiving is when you truly attain peace and work with a peaceful mind, enabling the spiritual self care process.

9. Travel and Explore

Sometimes, all you need is a change of surroundings. Take out some spare time book tickets for your favorite destination. Explore nature, new languages, people, language, and surround yourself with the beauty of the world. Traveling to new destinations helps you broaden horizons and expand your mind, increasing its absorbing power.

Spiritual self care can also be attained by visiting pilgrimage sites. Different religions around the world have different sites that spread peace and help you calm your nerves.  Visiting such locations allow followers to step out and explore a different part of the world to discover your true self.

Deep Breaths

If you feel anxious or increased heartbeat rate, breathe in and out for 5-8 counts. This has a soothing effect that can reduce nervousness.

Just Dance

Put on a party song on your earphones and Dance until you are out of your breath. Sometimes, spiritual self care is all about getting it out of your system.

Talk to Yourself

Put yourself in situations and answer yourself. This way, you will find your fears and improve your responsivity to situations.

Take Healthy Meals

Pick a healthy diet and change your eating habits. The body’s good state is very important for spiritual self care, so avoid carbonated drinks and junk foods.

Reward Yourself

Give yourself a treat from time to time. The best way to reinforce healthy habits is to reward yourself. Eat what you like the most, dress up, or go to your favorite place, the key takeaway here is spending time for yourself.

Stop Loathing Yourself

Learn from your mistakes and move forward. Self-loathing is a toxic trait that can only affect you adversely.

Love Yourself

In the end, I would only say that the day you would start valuing yourself, all your suffering shall come to an end. Mental Well being is as much important as physical well-being. 

Spiritual self care is defined according to the person practicing it, so try and figure out what works for you. There is no exact right or wrong path to physical and emotional self-care. Just follow your heart do what pleases you.
