The new martial art style that Bruce Lee founded has certain specific features, making it very different from other styles.

And that is why it is more popularly known as Bruce Lee workouts, as he practiced it. The Bruce Lee workouts are concentrated on the shortcomings of all other martial arts. Bruce Lee devoted almost his entire life to martial arts and observed some of the limitations.

He also has to make some changes according to the needs and demands of the audience. He used all these needs to invent a new style known as the Jeet Kune Do style. But as it has a personal touch of Bruce Lee, it is more commonly known as Bruce Lee workouts. It is a full workout plan that is planned day-wise.

It includes all such physical training and exercises that are compatible with each other and were taken together to eliminate the drawbacks of each other.

As we have discussed earlier, Bruce Lee has experimented with new styles and adopted many other combat disciplines to make his style.

From his diaries, we can trace this evolution and categories in its many phases. And after all these phases, we get what is now known as Bruce Lee workouts.

4.1. Full Body Training

His workout routine is packed with a full-body training routine. His body routine includes strength training, weight training, and martial arts training.

His training method is designed in such a way that will give strength and conditioning to the body. Bruce Lee’s workouts are, although a bit tough to perform. But if done properly, then it has many benefits.

4.2. Punching and Kicking

When we have a look at his first training method, we will find it quite traditional. This consists of punching and kicking exercises taken from the Wing Chun Gung Fu and Sil Lum Tao martial arts.

After this phase, when he mastered all these exercises, he started to shift his focus on boosting stamina.

He wants to increase his endurance, and for that, he would jump rope. With that, he also included cycling, and running. And also began experimenting with barbells in the Bruce Lee workouts.

After getting skilled in almost every martial art technique, he started focusing on the specialization of each of them. At this phase of evolution, he included weight training, heavy bag work, and speed bag work.

At this stage, the training routine he follows is a full-body fitness routine stressing aerobics, strength training, and flexibility.

In his diaries, a plan is revealed that is planned day-wise. And he has emphasized every training program and has decided on a day for each of them.

And has divided all the days of the week in them, and practice according to that only. In this way, he was able to focus on all the martial arts and training styles.

Bruce Lee has made plans according to the exercises or the part of the body towards which they are oriented. They are as follows,

5.1. Abdomen and waist

  2. Side bend

  5. Twist
  6. Backband

He practices them daily, every day of the week.

5.2. Flexibility

  1. Side stretch.
  2. Hurdle stretch
  3. Sliding stretch
  4. Front pulley stretch
  5. Side pulley stretch
  6. Front Stretch
  7. Sit stretch

These were also performed daily, and regularly. By doing these exercise plans daily, he develops a strong core system.

5.3. Strength Training

  1. 2 sets of 8 rounds of clean and press
  2. 2 sets of 12 rounds of squats
  3. 2 sets of 6 rounds of bench press
  4. 2 sets of 8 rounds of pullover
  5. 2 sets of 8 rounds of good mornings,

  4. 4 sets of 5 rounds of bench press
  5. And 4 sets of rounds of curl

He has decided only three days of the week for them. They are on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. He practices them on these days only.

5.4. Kicks

  1. Right and left sidekick
  2. Right and left hook kick
  3. Right and left spin kick
  4. Right and left rear front thrust
  5. Right and left heel kick

To them also he has given only three days in a week. Same as earlier, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

5.5. Punch

  1. Top and bottom bag
  2. Platform speed bag workout
  3. Overhead cross–foam pad and heavy bag
  4. Combination – heavy bag, top, and bottom speed bag
